The Political Landscape – New People, New Policies, New Priorities

The Political Landscape – New People, New Policies, New Priorities

Date: 25/05/2011

Gerry Naughton and Iarla Mongey (of Drury Communications) addressed 17 members on this topic. They elucidated the importance of the multi-faceted relationships between Ministers, line Departments, advisors, committees and opposition politicians, and members had an opportunity to discuss how to exploit the emerging political landscape to the benefit of the organisation.  The best way of doing this is to identify your political stakeholders, let them know who you are and initiate an informal communication channel.

The implications of upcoming changes in Joint Oireachtas Committee procedures for agency CEOs were a particularly important part of this discussion and the absolute necessity for appropriate preparation was highlighted.

A further outcome of the meeting was the decision to include a chapter on the Political and Public Service Landscape in the new CEO Guide.
