AGENCIES AND SYNERGIES

Jim Breslin, Secretary-General in the Department of Health, gave members a comprehensive overview of the relationships and interdependencies between central government departments and their agencies. The importance of collaboration between departments and agencies and across departments and agencies was stressed. The point was made that good people – as well as good structures – are needed to achieve governance in wider systems. There remains a disconnect between department and agencies but hopefully that will continue to be addressed in a positive way.
