    Ginny Hanrahan is the inaugural CEO/Registrar of CORU – the regulator for Health and Social Care Professionals since 2008.

    CORU currently regulates 23,000 professionals from 12 professions, including social workers, physiotherapists and optometrists and are working with 5 other professions towards regulation including social worker, counsellors, and psychotherapists. Ginny previously worked in health and social care services, acute hospital, community, and mental health with her last role as Head of Clinical Services in Beaumount Hospital, Dublin. She previously worked as an Occupational Therapist in Ireland, UK, and Australia. She is a past president of CLEAR – Council for Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation for international professional regulators. She holds Masters in Executive Leadership (UU) and in Community Health (TCD).

    Darragh O’Brien TD, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage

    Darragh O’Brien TD was appointed Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage in June 2020. He is an elected TD for the constituency of Dublin-Fingal. Prior to his election to the 30th Dáil in 2007, Minister O’Brien worked mainly in Financial Services and was elected to Fingal County Council in 2004. He was elected to Seanad Éireann in 2011.

    He has held various positions within the Oireachtas including Vice-Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee, Member of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Law Reform, Leader of Fianna Fáil in the Seanad and Opposition Frontbench Spokesperson on Dublin, Foreign Affairs and Housing.

    Alan Barrett, Chief Executive Officer of the Economic and Social Research Institute, (ESRI)

    Professor Alan Barrett is the Chief Executive Officer of the Economic and Social Research Institute.

    Alan received his Ph.D. in Economics from Michigan State University in 1994 and joined the ESRI that year. He was seconded to the Department of Finance from 2001 to 2003 and to Trinity College Dublin from 2011 to 2013.

    He was elected a member of the Royal Irish Academy in 2019 and is also an Honorary Fellow of the Society of Actuaries in Ireland. He is a member of the Northern Ireland Fiscal Council and is also a member of the recently established Energy Security Emergency Group in the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications. He was a member of the Irish Fiscal Advisory Council from 2011 to 2015 and a member of the Climate Change Advisory Council from 2015 to 2021. He has chaired each National Economic Dialogue from 2015 to 2022. He is a Research Fellow with the Institute for Labour Economics (IZA) in Germany.

    He is a frequent contributor to radio and television discussions on economic matters and has been quoted in newspapers such as The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and The Economist.

    Dr Pamela Byrne, Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), and Chairperson of ACESA.

    Dr Byrne holds a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from University College, Cork (UCC); an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College, University of London; a BSc in Zoology from UCC and a Higher Diploma in Environmental Law from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.

    Dr Byrne holds a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from University College, Cork (UCC); an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College, University of London; a BSc in Zoology from UCC and a Higher Diploma in Environmental Law from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.

    Prior to taking up the position of CEO at the FSAI in March 2015, Dr Byrne held the role of Director of Regulatory Policy and Intelligence with Abbott Nutrition. Having previously held senior positions in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), she has extensive experience of the food regulatory environment, as well as expertise in risk assessment and food safety management at both national and international levels.

    During her time at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Dr Byrne gained a deep knowledge of the food sector as an environmental toxicologist and risk assessor and was instrumental in developing Ireland’s research and innovation policy programmes in relation to food and the bio-economy. Dr Byrne also worked in the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation – Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn.

    Dr Byrne was the Chair of the Management Board of the Member State led joint research programming initiative “A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life” from 2013 – 2018. She is also the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Institute of Food

    and Health at University College Dublin, Ireland and in 2021, she was appointed Adjunct Professor with the Institute of Food and Health in University College Dublin. She is a member of the Board of the Institute of Public Administration since 2019.     Victor Dominello MP, Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, New South Wales State Government, Australia.

    Victor Dominello is a senior Minister in the New South Wales Government and has held various portfolios over the last decade including Aboriginal Affairs, Innovation and Finance. In 2019 he was appointed the inaugural Minister for Customer Service and in 2021 was also appointed the inaugural Minister for Digital Government.

    Victor firmly believes the use of real-time data and technology are the most powerful ways to improve quality of life and reduce suffering.
    Victor was a member of the original Crisis Cabinet which led the NSW response to Covid-19 and now sits on the Covid-19 and Economic Recovery Committee.

    His particular focus has been on delivering digital solutions such as the Service NSW QR code check-in feature and the real-time data analysis which has informed the state’s decision making.
    Victor has been the driving force behind the roll out of the Digital Driver Licence, the establishment of the $2.1b Digital Restart Fund and the rapid expansion of the Service NSW app to include QR code check-ins, the voucher programs, such as Dine and Discover, Covid-19 test alert notifications and the registration of positive rapid antigen tests.

    Yuliya Garyacha joined the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) as a legal adviser in July 2022. Yuliya is a Ukrainian lawyer, has more than 18 years of professional experience in the field of European integration of Ukraine. She started her career in the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, dealing with legal approximation and European sectoral reforms in Ukraine, implementation of the EU acquis into Ukrainian legislation in various sectors.

    In 2014 she obtained the PhD in public administration, the topic was also devoted to building up in Ukraine the institutional, legal and motivation mechanisms of public administration of the European integration process.

    After that she continued to implement her ideas and experience into practice, working in the Government Office for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration as a team leader.

    From 2018 she focused her efforts on digital transformation and integration of Ukraine into the EU Digital Single Market, what was acknowledged as the most promising and beneficial both for Ukraine and the EU.

    Benjamin Welby, Policy Analyst, Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)

    Benjamin Welby has been part of the OECD’s Digital Government and Data Unit since 2018 and currently leads work on digital identity, public sector digital talent and skills, and public service design and delivery in the digital age.

    His work with the OECD’s Working Party of Senior Digital Government Officials (E-Leaders) has also covered the impact of digital government on citizen well-being and the data-driven public sector. He has carried out Digital Government Reviews and capacity building work in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and North Africa.

    Prior to the OECD, Benjamin spent several years at the UK Government Digital Service as a product manager, initially joining to work on the development and launch of GOV.UK. Benjamin holds an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Birmingham; and an MA in Post-War Recovery Studies and a BA in History from the University of York.

    Garrett Blaney joined the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) as Commissioner and Chairperson on 7 January 2019.

    Garrett was previously a member of the Commission at the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) from February 2010 and Chairperson from February 2014 to February 2017. In 2017, he was elected the Chair of the ACER Board of Regulators (Agency for the Co-operation of Energy Regulators) and also the President of the Council of the European Energy Regulators (CEER).

    Prior to becoming a Regulator, Garrett had over 20 years of experience working in the energy industry. He was previously Strategic Development Director for Viridian Power and Energy; Commercial Director for Huntstown Power, Ireland’s first independent power producer; and Asian regional director for ESB International.

    Tom Arnold, Irish Government Special Envoy for Food Systems

    Tom Arnold is the Irish Government’s Special Envoy for Food Systems.  His career positions included serving as Director General of the Institute for International and European Affairs (IIEA); Coordinator, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement; Chief Executive, Concern Worldwide; Assistant Secretary General and Chief Economist, Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine; Senior Economist; Senior Economist, ACOT, the farm advisory and education service; Administrator, EU Commission.

    Tom has held positions at Irish, European and international level. Within Ireland, he was chair of the 2030 Agri-Food Strategy Committee; the All-Island Civic Dialogue on Brexit; the Irish Constitutional Convention; the Irish Times Trust and Board member and was a member of the Irish Hunger Task Force. He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) and a Lifetime Member of the RDS. For the EU Commission, he chaired the Task Force on Rural Africa and the High Level Expert Group for Food Systems Science. At international level, he was Chair of the OECD Committee of Agriculture; a member of the UN Food Systems Summit Champions Network; and the UN Millennium Project Hunger Task Force.

    His primary degree is in agricultural economics from University College Dublin (UCD) and he has Master’s degrees from the Catholic University of Leuven and Trinity College, Dublin. He has Honorary Doctorates from the National University of Ireland (NUI) and UCD and has served as Adjunct Professor in DCU, UCC and UCD.

    Anne is Chief Executive Officer with the National Transport Authority.  The Authority is responsible for the provision, regulation and integration of public transport services, the provision of supporting infrastructure for sustainable transport and for driving the greater use of sustainable transport as a mode of choice. The Authority will play a key role in supporting the reduction in carbon emissions in the transport sector.

    Anne has previously worked for the Authority as Director of Public Transport Services responsible for the regulation and provision of public transport services nationally. She was also responsible for the integration of public transport through the provision of Real Time Passenger Information signs and the Leap Card and integrated transport information available on our Transport for Ireland website and apps.

    Prior to joining the NTA, she worked in the Dublin local authorities as a chartered civil engineer in the drainage, roads and traffic divisions; as a Project Manager on the redevelopment of Dublin’s O’Connell Street area and as an Area Manager in the South West area of the city bringing services closer to local communities.

    Anne Graham was awarded a Masters in Engineering Science (Transportation) from UCD as well as a Masters in Business Administration from DCU. She is a Fellow of Engineers Ireland and the Irish Academy of Engineering.

    Elaine Nevin, National Director, ECO-UNESCO

    Elaine is the National Director of ECO-UNESCO, one of Irelands leading organisations in environmental education and education for sustainable development. She holds a BA in Geography and Political Science, an MA, a Higher Diploma in Education and has worked in the field of environmental education and education for sustainable development (ESD) in both formal and non-formal settings for over 20 years.

    Elaine has led the development and growth of ECO-UNESCO and its range of education, training and youth programmes. These have included ‘Youth for Sustainable Development’ – a peer education and youth leadership programme for 15-18 year olds, ‘ECO-choices’ – an environmental health and well-being programme; ‘Green Pathways’ – an accredited green youth employment programme; the ‘Young Environmentalist Awards’ which recognises and rewards young peoples’(10-18) work in environmental protection through action projects and ‘Learning2Change’ – a programme of workshops, teacher training, Student Council training promoting ESD in secondary schools. Elaine has led ECO-UNESCO’s partnership with UNESCO as a Key Partner of UNESCO’s Global Action Programme (GAP) in ESD and its current international framework ESD for 2030. She is a Ministerial Appointee to the 8th EPA Advisory Committee, served as a member of the 7th EPA Advisory Committee and was a Ministerial Appointee to the 6th EPA Advisory Committee.

    Elaine has also written a range of education resources and has advocated for environmental education and education for sustainable development as a critical component to achieving sustainability. Elaine is a member of the Department of Education and Skills Advisory Committee for the Irish National Strategy on ESD.

    Laura Burke is the Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), appointed in 2011 and served as a Director within the EPA since 2004. As Director General she has the responsibility to lead and strategically manage the EPA.

    Laura is the Chair of the European Environment Agency (EEA) Management Board. Prior to joining the EPA, she worked in the private sector. Laura is a graduate chemical engineer of University College Dublin (UCD), holds an MSc from Trinity College, Dublin, is a Fellow and is a Vice-President of Engineers Ireland and is a Chartered Director. In 2016 Laura was awarded the UCD Engineering Graduates Association (EGA) Distinguished Graduate Award.

    Marie Louise O’Donnell, Social Commentator, and former Senator

    Marie Louise O Donnell  is an educator, broadcaster, writer and former senator. In her early career she lectured at Carysfort Teacher Training College. She trained in Radio production, presentation and direction with the BBC in London and made and presented programmes for BBC Radio 4 for years.

    She became a member of staff in DCU for 24 years as a senior lecturer in The School of Communications. She initiated a professional arts programme at DCU culminating in the launch of The Helix in 2002.

    She was appointed to the Board of the National Concert Hall for 2 terms.

    She has lectured extensively in Ireland, Europe and the USA in Education, Irish Drama, Irish Culture and Language. She is a noted after dinner speaker.

    Marie Louise has presented programmes on television and radio and is a regular reviewer and media contributor. She worked weekly as a colour radio writer and reporter on RTE’s Today with Pat Kenny and Today with Sean O’Rourke shows.

    In May 2011 she was appointed to Seanad Éireann by the then Taoiseach Enda Kenny. She was re-appointed to the Seanad by the Taoiseach in 2016.

    In 2019 she published her first book  Irish Working Lives.

    In 2022 she was appointed as the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia.

    Hilkka Becker, Chairperson, International Protection Appeals Tribunal

    Hilkka Becker is the Chairperson of the International Protection Appeals Tribunal (Ireland) since April 2017. She was previously a Deputy Chairperson of the Tribunal and served as a part-time Member of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal from 2013 to 2016.

    Over the course of her career to date, she was Senior Solicitor at the Immigrant Council of Ireland – Independent Law Centre, for over 10 years, Regional Legal Advisor and consultant with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), solicitor in private practice and Legal Officer with the Irish Refugee Council.

    Hilkka is a member of the board of ACESA. She is an experienced public speaker, lectures at the Law Society of Ireland and acts regularly as a judicial trainer for the EU Asylum Agency (EUAA). She is an active member of the International Association of Refugee and Migration Judges (IARMJ), a Fellow of McLaughlin College at York University, Toronto and a member of the Justice and Home Affairs Group and of the Germany Group of the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA).

    Shirley Comerford, Assistant Secretary, Public Service Workforce Division, Department of Public Expenditure & Reform

    Shirley is an accomplished HR professional and people leader with extensive experience leading and delivering transformational change programmes.    She has worked in a number of complex sectors including Health, Education and Central Government in Ireland, Australia and the UK.

    She joined the Civil Service in 2012 and has held a number of senior roles including her appointment as CEO of the Public Appointments Service in 2018.  Her work as CEO in PAS has given her a good understanding of the challenges across the public sector and she has successfully built a strong stakeholder network.

    She has recently been appointed as Head of the Public Service Workforce Division in the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform.   This is a new and important role which will drive the delivery of targets and actions under the Workforce, Workplace and Organisation of the Future. As an advocate of modernisation of public services she is passionate about enabling change on an engaged and collaborative basis.

    Shirley holds a degree in Human Resources Management, Professional Diploma’s in Corporate Governance, Strategy, Innovation and Change from UCD Smurfit School and is a qualified Organisation and Workplace Mediator.

    Marien den Boer, program coordinator hybrid workplace, Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations

    Marien started his career in public service in 2005 at the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food quality. He has held various positions in HR, facilities, real estate and as executive advisor in the operations department.

    In 2020 Marien started at the Ministry of the Interior and became program manager in 2021. The program initiates and directs organisational policy and implementation on hybrid work for over 140.000 civil servants in the Dutch national government.

    Between 1998 and 2017 Marien was an active local politician for the Christian Democrats. He became a city councillor and alderman In the town of Oegstgeest, where he lives with his wife and two children. He is now chair to the local branch of the Christian Democrats. He has held several governing positions as chairman of the local church council and treasurer of the school of his children.

    Marien is passionate about governing societal change and public service and became Certified Public Manager in 2020. To him the hybrid workplace enables public servants to support political leaders, citizens and organisations in daily business and achieving societal change.

    When not at work, Marien enjoys reading, music (both listening and playing), hiking and nature photography.

    Rosalind Carroll, Chief Executive, Personal Injuries Assessment Board; Vice-Chair of ACESA.

    Rosalind Carroll is the Chief Executive of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB), the state body which assesses personal injury compensation. She took up her role in March 2020, having previously been CEO of the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB), the regulatory body for the rental sector.

    Ms Carroll’s experience as a senior executive has included positions at the Housing Agency as Head of Regulation and Head of Housing Services, as well as roles in the Department of the Environment and Dublin City Council, covering housing, regulation, and programme management. An ACESA Board members for a number of years, she currently serves as Vice-Chair.

    Patricia Carey, CEO, Adoption Authority of Ireland

    Patricia Carey is CEO of the Adoption Authority of Ireland (AAI) since 2014. AAI is a quasi-judicial body that is regulator for all adoption services in Ireland. She is responsible for the day-to-day management and direction of the AAI, which is accountable to the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

    Patricia has considerable previous experience in the non-profit sector, having worked in various support and education settings with the Traveller Community and as the Director of Services for the Society of St Vincent de Paul for 13 years. She is on the Boards of Caranua, the state’s redress scheme for survivors of institutional abuse, and BelongTo, the national organisation supporting LGBTI+ young people in Ireland. She holds a BA and H Dip from NUI Maynooth and postgraduate qualifications from the Irish Management Institute and the Institute of Public Administration.

    John joined Waterways Ireland in 2019 in his first public sector role. Prior to this John spent much of his career (20+ years) in senior roles in Royal Dutch Shell. He was Country Manager in Shell Ireland where he was responsible for the downstream businesses in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

    More latterly, John was Sales and Marketing Director with Liberty Insurance following the acquisition of the Quinn Insurance business and the establishment of the Liberty Insurance brand in Ireland. Throughout his long career John has also consulted across multiple sectors.

    Waterways Ireland is a cross-border body accountable to the North South Ministerial Council under the 1998 British-Irish Agreement. The organisation is headquartered in Enniskillen and has satellite offices in Dublin, Carrick-on-Shannon, and Scarriff. Its 350 staff are deployed across 1,200 kms of inland navigable waterways. The waterways estate comprises Grand Canal; Royal Canal; Barrow; Shannon, Shannon-Erne; Erne; Lower Bann navigations and the soon-to-be Ulster Canal.

    Waterways Ireland create economic, social, and environmental wellbeing value of €600 million annually for the public good in Ireland and Northern Ireland. John is responsible for the formulation and execution of the long-term strategy ‘to re-imagine our waterways sustainably for the public good’.

    Gina McIntyre, Chief Executive, Special EU Programmes Body

    Gina is the Chief Executive Officer of the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), a cross-border body established under the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and working to the Government of Ireland and the Northern Ireland Assembly.

    She is currently responsible for the European Union’s PEACE IV and INTERREG VA funding programmes, totalling in excess of €0.5 billion, which provides support to a wide range of sectors including peace building; children and young people; infrastructure; community projects; research and innovation; environmental protection; and healthcare. The PEACE Programme represents a unique investment by the European Union in support of the peace process, and both Programmes support the development of a more sustainable and prosperous cross-border region, across Northern Ireland, the border counties of Ireland and Western Scotland (INTERREG only).

    Gina is currently leading the organisation in preparing for the implementation of a new €1.1bn funding programme called PEACEPLUS for 2021-2027; designed to build Peace and Prosperity, which has enormous potential to boost economic growth and stimulate social regeneration and will be funded by the European Union, the Northern Ireland Executive, the Government of Ireland, and the United Kingdom.

    Aingeal O’Donoghue Assistant Secretary General, Department of the Taoiseach

    Aingeal O’Donoghue was appointed to the role of Assistant Secretary General in the Department of the Taoiseach in September 2020 with responsibility for Northern Ireland, British-Irish Affairs and the Shared Island Initiative.

    Prior to that she was Director General at the EU Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs since June 2017.

    Aingeal O’Donoghue served as Ireland’s Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from summer 2013 to summer 2017, following an assignment to Ireland’s Permanent Representation to the EU from 2008 to 2013.

    Her earlier career in the Department of Foreign Affairs included periods working on various aspects of the Northern Ireland peace process, on EU matters and a range of other postings including Madrid, New Delhi,  and Washington DC.

    Sir David Sterling KCB, Chairperson, Chief Executives Forum, Northern Ireland.

    David spent his career in the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS) working in a variety of roles.  He was Permanent Secretary in the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment from October 2009 until June 2014 and was responsible for the full range of DETI’s functions including policy on economic and business development, tourism, telecommunications, energy and business regulation.

    He was Permanent Secretary in the Department of Finance from July 2014 until June 2017 when he was promoted to Head of the NICS, a role from which he retired on 31 August 2020.  The devolved institutions were in suspension from the time of his appointment until early January 2020.  His main challenges during this time were maintaining public services in the absence of ministers, preparing for Brexit, facilitating the resumption of the Executive in January 2020 and dealing with the first wave of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

    He is currently the Chair of Northern Ireland Screen and the Chief Executives’ Forum in Northern Ireland.  He is also an EY Associate and a board member of Ulster Wildlife, the Cancer Fund for Children, the Centre for Cross Border Studies and Women in Business NI.

    John is a recognised expert in governance and risk-based regulation. He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery of the Royal College of Surgeons and was educated at the Honourable Society of King’s Inns, Harvard Kennedy School, Smurfit Business School, and University College Dublin. A Dublin native, John has worked in Ireland and the UK in both clinical and executive management positions.

    Prior to becoming Chief Executive of the Mental Health Commission, John was the first CEO of Ireland’s Charities Regulator, and was deputy Chief Inspector of Social Services in the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).

    Maurice Buckley, Chairperson, Office of Public Works and ACESA Alumni

    Maurice Buckley joined the Office of Public Works (OPW) in 2017 from his previous role as CEO of the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI), during which time he was an active member of the ACESA board and a former Chairperson. 

    The OPW manages an estate of over 2000 public buildings including Government offices, Garda stations, public offices, and cultural institutions. It provides workplace accommodation to the Civil Service and is tasked with implementing related policy initiatives such as Decentralisation and the Intreo programme. Currently the OPW is chairing an Accommodation Officers sub-group of the Covid-19 Senior Officials Group and working with DPER on defining future accommodation needs for the public service. The OPW is a leading player in project Ireland 2040 with large scale capital investment programmes improving Ireland’s Flood Risk Management Defences, our Heritage Estate, Cultural Institution buildings, and modern building infrastructure. 

    He was previously Managing Director of a specialist printing company with plants in Ireland, Germany and the United Kingdom, and a Consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Munich, Germany. Mr Buckley is a Chartered Director and a Chartered Engineer, with Masters Degrees in Engineering (University College Dublin) and Business Administration MBA (INSEAD, France).

    Ruth Graham is a deft, perceptive illustrator with a huge flair for mood and message. A graduate of the renowned Falmouth University, she sprung on from that to establish her flourishing illustration business, which services a diverse book of national clients working across sectors such as the arts, education, enterprise and tourism.

    Ruth is also the lead illustrator with collaborative content creators, Visual Newsdesk, with whom she creates captivating, vibrant animated graphics and videos. She is also a seasoned paper graphic harvester and can often be seen drawing on large boards at live events

    Skilled in both digital and pen and paper drawing, Ruth has produced large scale paper illustrations for events and feedback sessions across the country. Ruth will create a ‘visual note’ of the ACESA Conference.

    Deborah Somorin, Founder – Founder, Empower the Family

    A Qualified Chartered Accountant, Deborah Somorin founded Empower the Family (ETF) in 2018.  An Approved Housing Body, Empower the Family works with Dublin City Council to deliver Social Student Housing Development.

    The development will provide student accommodation to disadvantaged students attending university in North Dublin, with a particular focus on supporting single parents with onsite childcare and state care leavers between 18-23.

    Deborah’s work in this area earned her a spot on the prestigious 2020 Forbes 30 under 30 list alongside activists like Greta Thunberg. ETF was the only female-led organisation in Ireland to make the list in 2020.

    Deborah is also an author and has written two books to be published in September 2022. Believing in Me is a biography that explores her experience growing up in care in Ireland. I Believe in You, is a children’s picture book which teaches young children about building resilience.

    She completed a degree in Accounting and Finance at DCU in 2014. She then went on to complete a Masters in Accounting in DCU in 2015 which helped earn her a place at a Big 4 firm. She received two scholarships while at university to enable her to complete her studies.

    In her spare time, Deborah enjoys playing video games with her son Liam, reading books and writing articles on Diversity and Social Entrepreneurship.

    Dr Pamela Byrne, Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI), and Chairperson of ACESA.

    Dr Byrne holds a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from University College, Cork (UCC); an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College, University of London; a BSc in Zoology from UCC and a Higher Diploma in Environmental Law from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.

    Dr Byrne holds a PhD in Environmental Toxicology from University College, Cork (UCC); an MSc in Aquatic Resource Management from Kings College, University of London; a BSc in Zoology from UCC and a Higher Diploma in Environmental Law from the University of Aberystwyth in Wales.

    Prior to taking up the position of CEO at the FSAI in March 2015, Dr Byrne held the role of Director of Regulatory Policy and Intelligence with Abbott Nutrition. Having previously held senior positions in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), she has extensive experience of the food regulatory environment, as well as expertise in risk assessment and food safety management at both national and international levels.

    During her time at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Dr Byrne gained a deep knowledge of the food sector as an environmental toxicologist and risk assessor and was instrumental in developing Ireland’s research and innovation policy programmes in relation to food and the bio-economy. Dr Byrne also worked in the Cabinet of the European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation – Commissioner Maire Geoghegan-Quinn.

    Dr Byrne was the Chair of the Management Board of the Member State led joint research programming initiative “A Healthy Diet for a Healthy Life” from 2013 – 2018. She is also the Chair of the Strategic Advisory Board of the Institute of Food
